It’s been a busy bunch of months for us over here at Mutation.
First of all, we recently opened a new brick and mortar store in a nearby vendor mall called The Shoppes at Medford Mill located in Medford, NJ. Medford is a lovely little walking town with lots of pre-revolutionary history, breweries & restaurants and shopping! This was something we weren’t planning to do for another couple of years, but we saw a great opportunity and decided to go for it. We’ve only been open for a few weeks now, but we’re working hard to fill the space with as much awesome stuff as we can!
Second, we have onboarded to Diamond Comics Distribution as our third distributor. Diamond has a large variety of products that we previously did not have access to: TCGs and Figures/Statues, just to name a couple. We’re also adding comics and manga from publishers like BOOM Studios, Dynamite Entertainment, Titan Comics, TOKYOPOP, Viz Media and a whole bunch more!
Finally, I am not satisfied with how our Pre-Orders currently work (to be brutally honest). There is a limitation in the Shopify system that prevents us from updating the Release Dates in product titles after they have been ordered by the customer. I understand this is to protect customers and is therefore a good thing. However, when you go to check on your order status, you’ll see the Release Date that was true when you bought it, but it won’t reflect any possible changes.
There’s also no way to display that updated information elsewhere on the order status page or allowing a link back to the product page without doing some app development. I am looking into this option more.
On top of that, there are often times when Release Date changes go unchanged in our distributors catalog data files too. We utilize some software automation to keep our product data sync’d to the publishers. When processing hundreds of products this way, we don’t necessarily know that their data doesn’t reflect a change that has been documented elsewhere. Yeah, I know that sounds like shifting the blame. Sorry.
It's frustrating for me and I really don't want it to be frustrating for you.
We’ve had people reach out to ask about Subscriptions and it's something we have been actively working towards. Part of our new status with Diamond allows us to use Previews World Pullbox web site to manage subscriptions and pre-orders. I have set us up on there and you’re welcome to check out our profile.
I’d like to allow folks who want to subscribe / pre-order with us to use this system instead of maintaining our own Pre-Order product database. This is the direction I’m leaning in, but I’m not going to make any radical changes until after the new year.
In the meantime, if you’d like to try out subscriptions with us you can set up an account and request access on the pullbox web site. For now, I’m limiting this to people who have already ordered with us one or more times. Please use the same name & email you used with us so I can look you up in our system and verify.
I’m thinking Bi-Weekly or Monthly for shipping options and we’ll send an invoice over prior to shipping out your books. The biggest difference here is we won't be taking your payment until it's time to ship. I’m going to come up with either a flat rate or a discount for shipping subscriptions. Your books will come bagged and boarded, packed with the care you’ve come to expect from us.
This is still in the works, I’ll make a more formal announcement and put up a new page with all the information, our policies and boring stuff in painful detail. Stay tuned.
Thank you as always for your patronage and support!
PS - We will be having a sale over Thanksgiving Weekend. I don’t want to spoil it, but it rhymes with twenty five percent off. Wait… crap.
PPS - NYCC 2024 was awesome, check our socials for stuff about that.
